Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in 882 Days
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces
A comeback the Russian player won his initial championship for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.
Medvedev, a former number one, has had a difficult year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.
The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with former mentor his previous coach.
Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks the player's maiden title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after spring of 2023.
Success also means he has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various events.
"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had led some to doubt if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.
But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an better service.
The champion came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.
The competitors traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden tour championship, took control to create a third set.
The opponent rescued 4 early opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.
Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
